Wife Carrying Contest

Wife carrying is a contest in which competitors race while each carrying a partner. Whilst most teams consist of a man carrying a woman there are generally no rules about gender or marital status. The objective is for the runner to carry their team-mate through a special obstacle track in the fastest time. The sport was first introduced in 1992 in Sonkajärvi, Finland.

Several types of carrying may be practiced: either a classic piggyback, a fireman’s carry (over the shoulder), or Estonian-style (“wife” upside-down on his back with their legs over the neck and shoulders).

(From Wikipedia)

IMPORTANT DETAILS
-Contestants must be 18 years of age or older in order to compete.

-Registration is open for all (Does not have to be a husband/wife team) as long as the person being carried is at least 108 pounds. If they are not, backpacks with rocks must be worn until they meet the weight requirement.

-Helmets are recommended for the person being carried. (We have a few available, but bring your own if you have one)

-Registration is $15 per couple and waivers will be signed on site before the competition begins. T Shirts are included for anyone who is pre-registered. T shirts are not guaranteed for those who sign up day of.

Cornhole Tournament

While the exact origins of cornhole are debated, there’s a strong theory that it has roots in Native American cultures, who played a similar game using animal bladders filled with beans, which Scandinavian settlers may have then adapted and helped spread. Join us in Pioneer Village Friday May 23rd at 5:00 pm for this friendly classic competition.

Maypole

In Scandinavian traditions, a maypole, also known as a “midsommarstång” or “majstång,” is a central symbol of Midsommar, the summer solstice celebration, and is decorated with greenery and flowers, often with ribbons, and raised in a town square or open field where people gather to dance around it.

Symbolism:
The maypole, or “midsommarstång” as it’s known in Sweden, is a symbol of fertility, new life, and growth, representing the abundance of the summer season.

Decoration:
The maypole is typically decorated with greenery like birch leaves and wildflowers, and then adorned with colorful ribbons that are wrapped around it from top to bottom.

MAYPOLE

We are so excited to have a beautiful 60′ diameter Maypole coming to our festival this year!

Join us on the Snow College Practice Field next to the Main Stage for a fun and engaging interactive experience learning how to do a traditional Maypole! It only takes about 15 minutes.
